Mechanical Erection & Commissioning Engineer

The Mechanical Erection & Commissioning Engineer is responsible for the installation, erection, alignment, testing, commissioning, and successful handover of mechanical systems at project sites. The role includes piping and structural erection, equipment alignment, hydro testing, quality inspections, and ensuring compliance with project specifications, safety standards, and applicable codes.
Key Responsibilities
Mechanical Erection
- Supervise and execute erection of MS (Mild Steel) and SS (Stainless Steel) piping as per approved drawings and P&IDs.
- Carry out installation and erection of structural steel, pipe supports, platforms, ladders, and related accessories.
- Ensure proper routing, fit-up, welding coordination, and erection of piping systems.
- Verify dimensions, elevations, and alignment before and during installation.
Equipment Installation & Alignment
- Install and align mechanical equipment including:
- Pumps
- Compressors
- Pressure Vessels
- Blowers
- Tanks
- Heat Exchangers (where applicable)
- Perform precision alignment using dial gauges, laser alignment tools, or other approved methods.
- Ensure proper grouting, levelling, and foundation checks before commissioning.
Valve Installation
- Supervise installation, inspection, and testing of various valves, including:
- Gate Valves
- Globe Valves
- Ball Valves (BV)
- Butterfly Valves
- Check Valves
- Control Valves (as applicable)
- Ensure correct valve orientation, accessibility, and operational functionality.
Testing & Commissioning
- Plan and execute Hydro Testing of piping systems in accordance with approved procedures and project specifications.
- Conduct flushing, leak testing, pressure testing, and pre-commissioning activities.
- Coordinate with electrical and instrumentation teams during integrated commissioning.
- Monitor equipment performance during trial runs and resolve mechanical issues.
- Prepare commissioning checklists and ensure successful system handover to the client.
Quality & Documentation
- Ensure all erection and commissioning activities comply with project drawings, technical specifications, and applicable codes.
- Prepare daily progress reports, inspection reports, punch lists, and commissioning records.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections and client approvals.
- Maintain accurate documentation for mechanical completion and handover.
Safety
- Ensure compliance with all site safety rules and permit-to-work requirements.
- Conduct work in accordance with PPE requirements and HSE procedures.
- Identify hazards and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma/B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering.
Experience
- 3–5 years of experience in mechanical erection and commissioning of industrial plants such as Water Treatment Plants (WTP), Sewage Treatment Plants (STP), Ozone Systems, Process Plants, Chemical Plants, Oil & Gas, or similar industries.
